We Care Volunteers

What We Do

Thank you for your interest in We Care Volunteers!

Our mission is to provide a home cooked meal, weather appropriate clothing and support to the homeless and under-served within our community. We provide this support in a judgement free environment for individuals and families in Reno/Sparks who are experiencing homelessness-- whether living rough on the streets of Reno, or in the Daily motels along the 4th street corridor.

We serve an evening meal Tuesday-Thursday from 6:30 pm to 7:45 pm at 1905 East 4th street in the East 4th street Rest stop, just 1.5 miles from our previous location!

Many of the resources for our homeless and economically challenged guests are located within walking distance of the East 4th street rest stop which means we are able to reach the elderly, disabled and families living on the 4th street corridor, and those traveling by bus.

(the bus station is only 1.5 miles away, and the nearest bus stop is just across the street).

We Care Volunteers provides the main dish and at least two additional side dishes plus the beverage(s) to serve anywhere from 150-400 meals per night.

We encourage church, community, and school groups-- along with the general public-- to join in to serve, and to provide a side-dish, take away snack, fruit or dessert to round out our meal-- if they so choose.

We Care Volunteers are all inclusive-- partnering with many of the advocates and agencies throughout the greater Washoe County to assist those in need, but we have no ties to any specific church, political, or community organization.

We have worked alongside the Red-Cross, Catholic Charities, South Reno Methodist church, The Nevada Ewes, Veterans, Blue Star Moms, Girl and boy scouts, YELP Reno, Microsoft, Fandango, Nevada Energy employees, and various other groups to help stop hunger among the men, women, and families who live on the streets or the daily motels of Reno/Sparks Nevada. Our volunteers are the Washoe County populace and any given night you will meet Retirees, College students, Teachers, and even participants from the local “Pirates of Reno” re-enactment group!

We host two events a year where we provide weather appropriate clothes and gear that we have gathered from the community. We also offer other necessities like providing free haircuts and toiletries to assist with preparing with the Summer/Winter. These events have attracted over 1k participants .--partnering with other community organizations and nonprofits to provide a BBQ lunch, clothing, toiletries, haircuts other resources .

We Care Volunteers was founded in 2010 and incorporated in 2011 as a Nevada Non-profit and Federally recognized 501(c)(3)

We rely solely on private donations to accomplish our goals. 100% of the donations we receive go directly to support serving our homeless guests.

Now in our 11th year, We Care Volunteers provides over 3,800 meals a month-- serving the homeless, working poor, elderly, veterans, women, children and families of the Reno/Sparks community and those living in the 4th street corridor

Our Donors are the foundation of the organization, who keep us cooking and serving nutritious home cooked meals to those without the capability to do so for themselves.

See our "how you can help" tab to see how your donation assists us with our mission.

Our Volunteers

We are an all-inclusive group of volunteers who work with one common goal,

and that is to help our neighbors in need.

We Care!

Who We Serve

A 2010 hunger study* found that 15% of the population in our community are without a regular source of nutritious meals.

Unsurprisingly the same study reports that 41% of the population in our community does not qualify for federal food benefits and often must rely on charitable organizations like We Care Volunteers.
